Pavel, Jimmy, and I decided to go to the
Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado,
and backpack
into the backcountry. We were hoping for a good sunset
and sunrise,
as well as moonset and moonrise.
Unfortunately, there were too many clouds,
which spoiled
the light a bit. Even though the photography was not
great, the trip was.
Pavel and Jimmy made me laugh the
whole time, and the feeling of sleeping
on the dunes in
the backcountry was very unique.

Ready for the trail

Jimmy has no idea what's coming up.

Starting the climb.

It's a lot harder than it looks

Climbing the tallest dune in the park.

Close to the top.

This is the highest dune in the park.

campsite.

This is an amazing panorama taken by
Pavel, showing our campsite, the dunes, the huge
mountains in the background, and all three of us.

A MOVIE THAT JIMMY TOOK OF US RUNNING DOWN A
DUNE.

We spent the afternoon/evening looking
for cool photo locations.

I just ran down this dune, leaving big
tracks.

I settled at this spot for sunset, but
the magic light never happened.

This is the best light we had in the
evening. Not great, but I still love this place.

After sunset, everything turned blue.

After sunset, a 15 sec exposure.

Another one from well after the sunset.

Jimmy enjoying the morning light.

The sunrise was not great, but I still
loved the experience.

After breakfast and packing, we literally
ran back to Medano creek.
It was fast and fun (photo by Jimmy).

On the way home. Jimmy looks very happy.
